Inn Walden
A tucked-away Ohio gem
VERIFIED LUXURY
Here are five things to know about us:
1. We verify luxury. Our highly trained inspectors visit every property we rate, evaluating based on up to 900 objective criteria. Our hotel stays span a minimum of two nights.
2. We pay our own way. No one can buy a rating; all ratings are earned through our objective inspection process.
3. Our global team of inspectors are anonymous at all times, so they have the same experience as a typical guest.
4. While we inspect both service and facility, our Star Rating system emphasizes service because your experience at a hotel, restaurant or spa goes beyond looks — how it makes you feel is what you will remember most.
5. We started in1958 as Mobil Travel Guide, and we created the original Five-Star rating system for hospitality.
Five-Star
These properties deliver an outstanding experience and consistently offer a highly customized level of service.
Four-Star
These are exceptional properties, offering high levels of service and quality of facility to match.
Recommended

While only 30 or so miles separate Inn Walden from the hustle and bustle of Cleveland, the inn, located among the pastures, lakes, streams and meadows of Ohio’s calming Western Reserve, feels like thousands of miles away from big-city noise and chaos.
At Inn Walden, you will soon forget about your to-do lists, emails and text messages. Sit by the fireplace in the inn’s library and enjoy gourmet Harney & Sons teas along with the inn’s housemade scones, brandy snaps and mini cakes, and the responsibilities and aggravations of work will be distant memories. Even a walk to your room that passes by floor-to-ceiling windows that peek out onto fountains and flowery meadows will instantly calm you.

Our Inspector's Highlights
- The attentive spa staff knows just the right moment to bring you a glass of champagne as it whisks you away to your own private suite with a steam shower, fireplace and window sill seating area with oversized pillows that beg for a nap. All treatments include time pre- and post-massage to bliss out in your private sanctuary.
- There are plenty dining options at Inn Walden including Club Walden and the Blue Ribbon Café, which is open for breakfast and weekend brunch. If you want an elegant dinner, make a reservation for a table inside a 175-year-old restored barn, appropriately called The Barn, where jackets are required.
- You’ll stay fairly busy at Inn Walden. Fill your itinerary with the hotel’s horse stable and trail rides; bicycles; complimentary escorts in the inn’s Mercedes SUV to nearby dining and activities; full-service spa; gym; complimentary afternoon tea service and evening hors d’oeuvres in the library, which has a fireplace, books and board games; and small bar area that serves wine and cocktails.
- Aurora is the antidote to a high-energy, noisy big city. Horse farms, rolling hills, pastoral vistas and ample privacy and quiet, define this area, commonly referred to as the Western Reserve.
Things to Know
- Inn Walden is located in Aurora, Ohio, about 45 minutes from the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and roughly 30 minutes southeast of downtown Cleveland.
- It should be noted that Inn Walden and its adjacent residential community feature various green building concepts, like low-maintenance natural siding, energy-efficient windows, added insulation, attic ventilation, multiple heating and cooling zones, and sustainable landscaping.
- Inn Walden is one of those places that is nice anytime of the year, but if a recommendation had to be made, fall and winter are favored. Autumn is a great time to visit for the changing leaves and horseback riding.
- Both Club Walden and The Barn are about five minutes away from the property, but the inn will bring you there in its complimentary Mercedes SUV. If you feel like dining in, all three restaurants will deliver meals to your room for an extra fee.
The Rooms
- Rooms at Inn Walden are actually suites with nature-inspired, modern décor, such as Vermont slate showers, private patios and Jacuzzis, fireplaces, cedar ceilings, European fabrics and textiles, and contemporary paintings and pottery.
- Inside the suites, you’ll find amenities such as flat-screen TVs; oversized plush bath towels; soft Kashwere bathrobes; wooden and satin clothes hangers; walk-in closets; separate powder room areas; Keurig machines with complimentary coffees and teas; mini-bars with martini fixings such as olives; complimentary Wi-Fi and breakfasts; and telephones with options for six languages.
- The inn’s 22 stylish suites are decked out with Baker furniture and Brunschwig & Fils fabrics. The king-sized beds are dressed in Frette linens.
- The Ohio hotel’s Bridal Suites come with expansive bedroom and sitting areas and secluded gardens; Loft Suites with sky-lighted stairs and second-floor bedrooms; Pyramid Suites with vaulted tongue-and-groove cedar ceilings and windows that look out over woodlands and pasture; Equestrian Suites with open floor plans and walk-in showers; and Walden Suites with luxury bathrooms and garden and woodland vistas.
The Look
- Inn Walden’s design style is a mix of modern country (fireplaces, floor-to-ceiling windows that look out onto pastoral lands) and European elegance (Frette bedding, Brunschwig & Fils fabrics and floral draperies, Clarence House wallpapers, Donghia textiles and tables) with up-to-date touches (complimentary Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs).
- The Ohio inn also has a relaxed style, most noticeable in its suites and spa. Inside the suites, enjoy separate living spaces with rocking chairs and fireplaces, and in the spa, private suites that include steam showers, whirlpool tubs and seating areas next to windows where you can unwind before or after your treatment.
- Most all spaces at the inn include some sort of natural element, such as oversized windows and glassed-in walkways that peek out onto meadows, gardens or fountains.
- The inn’s building construction also used natural materials, such as cedar and slate that go well with a palette of earth tones (tans and cooling blues) on the walls. You will also notice museum-quality paintings and pottery inside the suites and lining the inn’s hallways and public spaces.
