The Ned Doha

Doha's cool, creative retreat
VERIFIED LUXURY
With a dress circle location on Doha’s Corniche, The Ned Doha’s building is, to put it mildly, iconic.

Formerly the Ministry of the Interior office, the 1970s brutalist building by renowned Lebanese architect William Sednaoui, was repurposed in a remarkable renovation in 2022 and now houses The Ned Doha’s 90 rooms and suites, seven restaurants, a members-only club and a spa.

It’s safe to say there is nothing like this hotel in Qatar and this is evident from your arrival, which takes you up a sweeping Hollywood-esque staircase, past the retro check-in desk and into the heart of the building. Every corner of the David Chipperfield-designed hotel — from the plush jewel-toned lobby seating to the midcentury modern guest rooms — is a vintage visual feast.

The hotel’s other attractions radiate from the soaring central atrium, which also plays host to a bandstand, where a jazz trio sets up shop nightly to entertain guests.

The restaurants encompass everything from Italian classics at Cecconi’s to old-school burgers and hot dogs at Electric Diner to a full English breakfast at Millie’s Lounge.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The hotel’s art collection is gallery-worthy, with more than 350 contemporary works, including 60 exclusively commissioned. Among the featured artists, 61 hail from Doha and 70% are female. One work, Doha ReModernism, by Qatari artist Maryam Al-Homaid depicts the former building with its geographical coordinates through textiles.
  • The 30-meter showcase outdoor pool is straight from a 1970s Hollywood movie, with green and white striped daybeds for lounging and a cool, relaxed vibe.
  • Guests will love the luxurious touches in the rooms, like full-sized Cowshed amenities in the marble bathrooms, Dyson hair dryers and styling tools, as well as Marshall Bluetooth speakers.
  • Location is key here. Equidistant from the tourist-friendly Souq Waqif, Msheireb Downtown and Doha’s famed museums, the Doha hotel is also a short taxi ride away from the commercial hub of West Bay.
  • Ned’s Club Spa on the fourth floor has views across the city skyline and a treatment menu spanning, muscle-melting massages, rejuvenating facials and a luxurious Moroccan hammam.

Things to Know

  • The luxury hotel is family friendly, offering kids menus in the restaurants, but there are specific timings for their use of the pool area.
  • Ned's Club Upstairs is a separate members-only area. Hotel guests can access most facilities, such as the pool, gym and spa, with the exception of the members' club lounge, restaurant and bar.
  • During Doha’s sweltering summer, some venues such as Hadika, a Levantine restaurant in a garden, close.

The Rooms

  • You can choose between Park (overlooking the green space Al Bidda Park), Palace or Corniche views for each of the rooms and suites, all offering a different aspect of Doha’s unique landscape.
  • Rooms take the hotel’s retro vibe a step further, with earth tones and textured furnishings all accented with muted blues and greens. And of course, the rotary dial phones sit on the bedside tables.
  • Even the “Cosy” rooms clock in between 344 and 398 square feet, with thoughtful desk and seating areas, small balconies and walk-in showers in addition to the expansive emperor-sized beds.
  • Palace View Suites, which look onto the Amiri Diwan (the seat of government in Qatar) and the gulf are a spacious 840 square feet and feature a dining/living room with an L-shaped sofa, a roomy roll-top bathtub and a separate shower.
  • Perfect for families, the nearly 2,000-square-foot two-bedroom Corniche View Suite has a dining area for up to six people, three balconies, two bathrooms and walk-in closets.
  • Each room comes with one of the most stylish mini-bars you are likely to find: a mirrored drinks cabinet with bespoke glassware.

The Restaurants

  • All-day dining spot Millie’s Lounge is among the buzziest locales in Doha, thanks to its 180-degree views of the skyline, a stunning terrace area and curved dining booths. The British-style afternoon tea is especially popular.
  • Electric Diner goes full tilt with the 1950s American diner vibe, some of the best cheeseburgers in town, decadent milkshakes and fully loaded hot dogs.
  • Hadika, which is set outside with a palm-fringed dining area, serves Levantine favorites like fattoush dibs el remman (salad with pomegranate) and dawood basha (stewed minced beef with spices).
  • Set by the pool on an air-conditioned terrace, Malibu Kitchen offers smoothies, poke bowls, salads and light bites. It’s also home to the hotel’s popular Friday brunch.
  • Highlights of Cecconi’s modern Italian menu include hand-rolled pasta, some of the best pizzas in Doha and comfort mains like veal Parmigiana.
