JW Marriott Cannes
A modern, glitzy scene in Cannes
VERIFIED LUXURY
Here are five things to know about us:
1. We verify luxury. Our highly trained inspectors visit every property we rate, evaluating based on up to 900 objective criteria. Our hotel stays span a minimum of two nights.
2. We pay our own way. No one can buy a rating; all ratings are earned through our objective inspection process.
3. Our global team of inspectors are anonymous at all times, so they have the same experience as a typical guest.
4. While we inspect both service and facility, our Star Rating system emphasizes service because your experience at a hotel, restaurant or spa goes beyond looks — how it makes you feel is what you will remember most.
5. We started in1958 as Mobil Travel Guide, and we created the original Five-Star rating system for hospitality.
Five-Star
These properties deliver an outstanding experience and consistently offer a highly customized level of service.
Four-Star
These are exceptional properties, offering high levels of service and quality of facility to match.
Recommended
These are excellent properties with consistently good service and facilities.

Set on the same spot that was once home to the first Palais des Festivals, JW Marriott Cannes not only has a historic location — it’s also smack-dab in the middle of Boulevard de la Croisette. From the rooftop pool, you can look out and see yachts dotting the Mediterranean and the Cannes Film Festival's new home tucked away at the other end of La Croisette.
One of the youngest hotels lining the famous boulevard, the 263-room JW was built in 1992 after knocking down the former Palais. Built on one condition — that it would house an 825-seat theater to keep the festival spirit alive. The hotel changed hands and décor before taking on its present-day appearance as the JW Marriott. The Cannes hotel still captures some of the former Palais' 1950s elegance, but also takes a bold, splashy modern spin on luxury lodgings.

Our Inspector's Highlights
- The lobby entrance really sets the scene for your stay in Cannes: the rooftop pool lies just overhead the five-story atrium, which is draped in white Carrara marble with black and gold accents, a nod to the film festival's colors and a golden crystal leaf chandelier spirals downward the center of the space.
- The one film festival relic, the theater, is still used for showings during the annual event in May, but the hotel also occasionally opens up the space for public viewings throughout the year.
- Head to the popular rooftop pool for a swim and to soak up the sun.
- The luxury hotel sits on the famous Boulevard de la Crois, more than 160 feet from the water. It offers a private beach to ensure guests have access to the sand.
- Enjoy a cocktail on the Sunset Terrace, where you can watch the sun sink into the horizon in a tranquil setting.
Things to Know
- You won't find an onsite spa, but the JW has a few other resort-like amenities from a fitness center to a shopping gallery and onsite gaming casino, if you want to try your luck without trekking over to Monte Carlo.
- Savor Mediterranean and Asian fare at the private Palais Stephanie Beach or upscale Italian cuisine at Scalini.
- This is a pet-friendly hotel.
The Rooms
- While the public areas exude a slightly ’80s vibe, the guest rooms are more masculine and contemporary in design, with brown leather-trimmed walls, dark furnishings, dim lighting and terraces overlooking the sea or garden courtyard.
- Large-scale black-and-white portraits of movie stars like Ava Gardner, Elizabeth Taylor and Brigitte Bardot hang behind each bed.
Nearby Attractions
- Cannes is one of the best shopping destinations in the world. Along the beachfront La Croisette, designer outposts (think Chanel, Céline, Yves Saint Laurent, Hermès and Louis Vuitton) line way for nearly two miles. Parallel to La Croisette is Rue d’Antibes, where you’ll find well-known brands like Sephora, Zara and Petit Bateau.
- Boating on the Mediterranean is a must. Whether you sail over to St. Tropez or thrill yourself with some watersports, you don’t want to miss playing in the crystal clear water.
- You’ll want to book a few lounge chairs in advance because there aren’t many public beaches in Cannes. But with the price of the plush chair comes delightful food and drinks.
- Behind all the glam and fashion lies a strong history dating back to the second century BC. Make your way to the neighborhood of Le Suquet and up to the castle, where you’ll find the beautiful church of Notre-Dame d’Esperance and a museum.
