Originally built in 1939 for Lord and Lady Strickland, The Phoenicia Malta is a timeless-classic-turned-luxury-retreat. After a multimillion-dollar refresh, this architectural art-deco beauty, with 132 guest rooms and sprawling gardens near a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is Valletta’s grande dame of hotels.
At the heart of The Phoenicia Malta, Palm Court Lounge opens to a sprawling terrace overlooking the gardens. Elegant but approachable colonial-chic interiors were designed in collaboration with esteemed U.K. designer Peter Young. The cheery Mediterranean patterns and greenery of the lobby flow seamlessly into the rooms, where you can find similar aesthetics with pops of blue and pink.
Beyond the infinity outdoor pool, the hotel has a large indoor pool as part of Phoenicia Spa & Wellness with a sauna, steam room and salt room. Thanks to the onsite vegetable garden, the hotel’s Contessa features international favorites, like salt-baked fish with seasonally fresh, garden-to-table ingredients. After dinner, The Club Bar is the ideal spot to relax with a glass of Maltese wine on the terrace.
Admire the hotel’s Edward Caruana Dingli paintings located in the corridors adjacent to Palm Court Lounge. It’s the largest private collection of one of Malta’s finest artists.
