The St. Regis Longboat Key Resort

A landmark retreat on Sarasota’s luxurious barrier island
VERIFIED LUXURY

The St. Regis Longboat Key turned heads for a couple of key reasons upon its October 2024 arrival. First, the beachfront oasis was the only St. Regis property that opened in the U.S. that year. Second, the Sarasota-area resort was the largest development on the 11-mile-long barrier island in a half century.

Indeed, the project is vast, spanning 18 acres with several hundred feet of private white sand beaches. Amid large communal areas and larger square footage spaces — like the aptly named The Pools epicenter — there’s a balance of quiet nooks, too. The luxury hotel includes 168 guest rooms and suites. They range from one- to four-bedroom units and come with either a bay or ocean view. Each accommodation has a balcony that will be the ideal place to be come sunset time.

There’s plenty to keep couples and families alike occupied during a tranquil getaway, including more than a half dozen restaurant options and a 20,000-square-foot spa. For the private event and conference crowd, there are 10 event rooms comprising more than 34,000 square feet, with two ballrooms each able to accommodate 750 guests. Sure, there are big numbers as this property, but it’s the singular St. Regis moments and the trademark individualized service that truly delight.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Designed by HBA Miami and Dutch East Design, homages to the Gulf Coast radiate throughout. Its central St. Regis Bar and Lobby Lounge are an immediate focal point upon entry, with pink, plush bar stools; pink walls; and dashes of flower vases seamlessly meshing with aqua blue art pieces.
  • The Pools area is the resort’s undeniable communal lounging space. Options for a dip include a winding river, Jacuzzi, a family-friendly pool and an adults-only Serenity Pool with a waterfall. Pool butlers are also available to cater to your every need.
  • Take your vacation even deeper with a dive in the resort’s Under the Sea Lagoon, a 350,000-gallon experience that features nearly 50 rays, almost 3,000 fish and countless possible memories for you and your snorkeling loved ones.
  • Many of the bookable suites bear the names of people with local ties. There’s the 947-square-foot Mable Ringling Suite, honoring the late art collector and wife of circus cofounder John Ringling. There’s also the John Jacob Astor Suite, a spectacular space named after the St. Regis’ founder that has its own dining table, a separate living room and unbelievable waterfront views. The Presidential Suite is the property’s largest, stretching more than 3,400 square feet. It draws inspiration from Sarasota pioneer Davie Lindsay Worcester, who had a deep love for its coastline and ever-visible shells.
  • The St. Regis Spa, which is layered in soft wood and natural stone elements, features 14 treatment rooms, an infinity-edge tub overlooking the sea and a thermal experience with steam room, sauna and shower elements.

The Restaurants

  • Anchoring the resort’s seven dining options is steakhouse CW Prime. Count on tableside preparations and theatrics as well as the spectrum of fresh seafood and aged beef. Adjacent is a speakeasy-esque bar, The Spirit Room, which has bedazzled cocktails and rare wines.
  • Aura is The St. Regis Longboat Key’s haven for Latin American fare. While the décor is understated — soft tans and forest green cushioned chairs abound — the flavors are bold, spanning from grouper served with a mojito-flavored tartar sauce to adobo chicken skewers with an avocado crema.
  • Oshen is a Japanese-meets-Peruvian affair. Snag an outside table or spot at the outside bar. Either way you’ll be treated with unforgettable gulf vistas. Beyond cocktails, sake, spirits and wine, specialty rolls are a popular menu item. Its Maine lobster roll is a standout with charred grapefruit and a ponzu glaze.
