Carlton Hotel St. Moritz

Grand luxury with a view in St. Moritz
VERIFIED LUXURY

Just minutes from the town center, Carlton Hotel St. Moritz brings a fresh vibe to traditional luxury. With a major renovation in 2007, renowned interior designer Carlo Rampazzi revamped this 1913 grand dame into a stylish, colorful and more modern version of its predecessor.

But what sets this elegant enclave apart from the rest are its south-facing all-suite accommodations — a particular placement that affords each room a magnificent view of Lake St. Moritz and the Engadine mountains. Butler and 24-hour limousine services are just a few of the many other perks you can expect during your stay.

The Bel Etage is the heart and soul of the Carlton — this opulent floor with two historic open fireplaces is the hotel’s pièce de résistance and its main lobby. A lively ambiance invites you to enjoy a pre- or after-dinner drink accompanied by live music played on the grand piano.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • It’s worth checking into Carlton Hotel St. Moritz alone for the mesmerizing views. Every suite faces the majestic Swiss Alps and the picturesque lake.
  • The resort offers a curated selection of custom experiences to help you make the most of your snow-capped surroundings. If you’re not the sporty type, opt for a horse-and-carriage ride through the forest followed by a hearty fondue lunch.
  • From the St. Moritz hotel, it’s a quick seven-minute walk into the center of town. Stroll down Via Serlas to experience one of the world’s most expensive shopping streets and be sure to stop by Hanselmann coffee shop to try a regional specialty: engadiner nusstorte (nut tart).
  • Whether by the cozy fireplace or on the scenic sun terrace, you’ll want to indulge in the traditional afternoon tea. Accompanied by live music, this daily delight is served on blue checkered Russian porcelain with delicious bite-size snacks or on all-pink tea porcelain by Rosenthal sprinkled with some Swarovski sparkles and topped with pink sandwiches, pink macarons and other colorful delicacies.

  • A spacious spa spread out over three floors invites you to relax among an array of luxurious water features and mountain panoramas.

Things to Know

  • A seasonal hotel, the Carlton is open from December to March.
  • Your outdoor butler is more than happy to plan an alfresco adventure for you.

  • St. Moritz plays host to several international events throughout the year, including January’s Snow Polo World Cup, February’s White Turf horse races and the annual Gourmet Festival. Plan well in advance if you want to visit during these popular times.
  • Getting to the luxury hotel is half the fun. There are private jets flying into St. Moritz, but taking the Bernina Express (the red train) will offer breathtaking views of impressive viaducts and UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Rooms

  • The hotel’s 60 suites range from a cozy 484 square feet to 1,722 square feet, each individually designed with a comfortable seating area, an open minibar and luxurious bathrooms.
  • Though not all junior suites come with balconies, all accommodations feature spectacular mountain views through sizable windows.
  • For the ultimate in mountain luxury, book the Carlton Penthouse. This three-bedroom, 4,154-square-foot space boasts a full kitchen, a living room with an open fireplace, five terraces and 360-degree vistas.

The Restaurants

  • A culinary adventure awaits at Da Vittorio - St. Moritz, the hotel’s acclaimed fine-dining restaurant. Chef brothers Enrico and Roberto Cerea helm the kitchen, turning out artfully presented plates of flavorful Italian cuisine. You must try paccherialla Vittorio, a signature dish of housemade pasta with tomato and basil sauce. It's straightforward but delicious.
  • After years away, executive chef Salvatore Frequente returns and brings a dining concept with a difference to the new Grand Restaurant. With unobstructed views of the Engadin mountains and Lake St. Moritz, the space gives pride of place for local produce and wild products from the surrounding forests. Freshly picked and collected ingredients embody an authentic connection to the region.
  • Enjoy a club sandwich with a glass of champagne on the Carlton Bar and Lobby’s sun terrace while catching a few rays in a comfortable lounge chair.
