Kulm Hotel St. Moritz

St. Moritz's alpine grande dame
VERIFIED LUXURY

If the phrase “winter wonderland” were a destination, St. Moritz would fit the description, and the historic Kulm Hotel St. Moritz would complete the scene.

Considered the birthplace of cold-weather sports, this tony Swiss ski resort has not only hosted the Winter Olympics twice (1928 and 1948) but is also home to the oldest and only remaining natural ice bobsled run in the world.

But it’s not all outdoor adventures here. The grand hotel instantly wows with its stately entry. Ornately adorned with richly patterned carpets, imposing columns and spectacular wood details depicting scenes of St. Moritz, the lobby offers just a taste of the extravagant extras to come.

A 21,000-square-foot spa invites endless opportunities for relaxation, seven sensational restaurants and bars offer mouthwatering morsels any time of day and sumptuous rooms (many with private balconies) beckon you to take in those panoramic mountain views without changing out of your robe.

Things to Know

  • Legend has it that a famous 1864 bet between hotel owner Johannes Badrutt and one of his English guests led to the introduction of winter tourism in the Swiss Alps. Badrutt wagered that if his guests came to visit Kulm Hotel St. Moritz in December and didn’t find it enchanting, he would refund all of their travel expenses — the guests stayed until Easter and alpine tourism was born.
  • This luxurious mountain resort provides picture-perfect views of the slopes, but doesn’t offer ski-in, ski-out service. However, a complimentary shuttle can easily whisk you to and from the funicular.
