THE OMNIA Mountain Lodge

Zermatt’s magical mountainside hideaway
VERIFIED LUXURY

Serenely resting atop Zermatt’s central village is THE OMNIA Mountain Lodge. Like its more rustic neighbors below, THE OMNIA has an angular wooded exterior that melds wonderfully with its conifer-filled surroundings. But unlike most structures in the area, this mountainside retreat adds an elegant, contemporary allure to the natural setting. Here, stone pines mingle with spacious rooms and a Finnish sauna. Birches blend brilliantly with breathtaking views and unbelievable cuisine.

This complex coupling has a simple source — architect Ali Tayar. The late visionary employed elements of an American mountain lodge (crackling fireplaces, brown leather furnishings) done with a global wink (a Turkish bath, Australian toiletries). The result is a 30-room stunner sitting in the majestic Matterhorn’s shadows.

The views alone are worthy of a stay. But lucky for you, the priceless vistas are only enhanced by minimally arranged rooms, four dining options, an indoor/outdoor pool and a flower steam room you would never envision finding atop a Swiss mountain village.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Though rooms in the Zermatt hotel vary in size from quaint Queens (247 square feet) to spacious suites (more than 1,100 square feet), you can expect all of the units to delight with a neutral color scheme, hardwood flooring and memory-foam mattresses.
  • While not the largest accommodation on the property, the Omnia Tower Suite lives up to its name by offering a telescope-equipped turret facing Matterhorn. Play out your childhood fairytales from the balcony or daydream from the comforts of your bathtub.
  • Don't miss a dip in the hotel's sleek indoor-outdoor pool. Luxuriate in the toasty 86-degree waters outside to get a glimpse of  Zermatt and the Matterhorn.
  • In addition to the Wellness Center’s sauna and cleansing baths, the facility also houses a fitness center, space for yoga classes and treatment rooms for hot stone massages and other pampering procedures.
  • The 60-seat restaurant is where respected chef Hauke Pohl shows off his versatility with beef, braised vegetables and a bevy of seasonal ingredients.

Things to Know

  • Every stay comes with a complimentary continental breakfast that includes items like fresh juices, yogurt, muesli, meats, cheeses, crepes and pastries.
  • You get to the boutique hotel through a tunnel in the rock and ride a glass elevator up to the lobby, high above Zermatt’s main square.

The Rooms

  • While the accommodations in the luxury hotel are unique, they all share a palette of light wood, white and slate and a bright, airy atmosphere.
  • Every room comes with a balcony so you can make the most of the beautiful views.
  • Expect luxurious details, including Aesop toiletries in the bathrooms, Swarovski binoculars and a decanter of bourbon as a welcome amenity.
  • Head to the Omnia Roof Suite for Matterhorn and Zermatt valley vistas and a telescope to take a closer look. Then get cozy near the wood-burning stove and fireplace, or in the bathroom’s tall wooden bathtub.

The Restaurants

  • The OMNIA restaurant employs seasonal Alpine ingredients for dishes like Valaisan-style ramen with spelt pasta, egg, mushrooms and other vegetables, and wiener schnitzel with warm potato salad and lingonberries.
  • Sit in the sun-filled terrace, sip a Strawberry Landing (vodka, hibiscus, strawberry, vanilla, lemon and egg white) and nosh on a croque monsieur with gooey raclette cheese or risotto with mountain cheese.
  • When you need a nightcap, cozy up to the fireplace in the Lounge Bar with some grüner veltliner.
