Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection

Sultry desert chic in Los Cabos
VERIFIED LUXURY

Sitting on one of Los Cabos’ only swimmable beaches, Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection is the sexy younger sibling of its Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star sister property, Esperanza.

Halfway between the culture of San Jose del Cabo and the shopping and nightlife of Cabo San Lucas, Chileno Bay offers an escape that’s as action-packed or laid-back as you wish it to be.

Ideal for romance or active young families alike, the 92 room-and-villa resort is equal parts L.A. cool and Palm Springs chic — bleached woods and minimalist landscaping blend easily into the desert surroundings, letting the azure-blue ocean waters and central three-tiered pool do most of the jaw dropping.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The 10-room spa is a must-visit. Make sure to reserve time for the spa's bath house, nap garden and reflexology pool.
  • Don’t want to talk to a soul? Here, you don’t have to. The resort is happy to deliver cocktails to your pool chair or room via Facebook messenger requests.
  • Chileno Bay, the body of water for which the resort is named, has one of the only swimmable beaches in Cabo — it’s open most days, provided the current isn’t too strong. Just ask the beach attendant for gratis snorkeling gear, a kayak or stand-up paddle board and enjoy the frequent schools of multi-colored fish that zip by.
  • Snag one of five private bungalows by the three-tiered pool to get a mix of sun and shade.
  • Start every stay the right way with a Chilenito, the resort’s signature mezcal-based cocktail made in-room during your check-in.

Things to Know

  • Take the shuttle over to sister property Esperanza and enjoy dinner at Cocina del Mar, the property’s fine-dining restaurant perched over the ocean, or visit the chic onsite boutique.
  • Wellness seekers will love the well-appointed fitness center (stocked with the latest in Technogym equipment), but the Los Cabos hotel also offers daily boot camp, yoga, barre and even aqua-spin classes.
  • Be sure to pack your clubs — resort guests get exclusive access to the normally members-only 18-hole Tom Fazio-designed golf course.
  • A teen club provides pool, foosball, pingpong and video games (Xbox X and PlayStation Pro). The younger set has its own club with a painting station, board games and a library with English and Spanish books.
  • Stay active on three pickleball courts and one half-basketball court.

The Rooms

  • Starting at 760 square feet, guest rooms are spacious and feature expansive balconies, many with ocean views. The décor is muted with sand-colored tile and pops of soothing green, yellow and blue that let the natural beauty of the surroundings shine through.
  • Every room has a deep soaking tub accented with custom hand-painted tile work, as well as a spa-like outdoor shower. With bathrooms this gorgeous, we understand if you take both a shower and bath every day.
  • The mini-fridge is restocked daily with snacks, juices, soft drinks and water.
  • For families or longer visits, book one of the villas, which have private pools or Jacuzzis and full kitchens with Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances.

The Restaurants
  • The breakfast spread at Comal is a must. Select from an array of fresh-squeezed juices, healthy granolas, fruits and yogurts, breakfast pastries and made-to-order goodies such as a mango yogurt served in a passion fruit- and spirulina-topped coconut or matcha pancakes with mascarpone cheese and blueberries
  • TnT (Tacos and Tequila) beach bar is where to go for a casual lunch. Don’t miss the catch of the day or tempura shrimp tacos.
  • Head early to dinner for drinks at Comal’s bar — the hanging swings outside the restaurant make for great Instagram material.
  • YAYA, Chileno Bay’s dining hotspot, offers lunch and dinner, blending Mediterranean influences with vibrant Latin American flavors in an open-hearth kitchen. The YAYA Mezze and fresh pastas are must-order dishes.
  • The Bar Downstairs, open Thursday through Saturday, is one of the best spots in Los Cabos for after-dinner drinks. Dance to the live DJ or unwind in a corner booth with one of the creative cocktails.
